Staying Ahead: Reading Your Opponent's Body Language
Learn to predict shots by observing your opponent's movements.
Stay One Step Ahead: Reading Body Language
One often overlooked aspect of pickleball is the ability to read your opponent’s body language. This skill can give you a significant edge on the court. Here’s a quick drill to help you improve:
- Warm-Up: Start with a regular rally to warm up.
- Observation Drill: Play a game where your primary focus is on your opponent's shoulders and hips. Notice their rotation and movement when setting up for different shots.
- Prediction: Before your opponent hits the ball, try to predict whether they’ll hit a dink, drive, or lob based on their setup. Communicate your prediction with your practice partner.
- Feedback: After each point, discuss with your partner about the accuracy of your predictions and what cues were helpful.
Repeat this drill regularly. With practice, you’ll be able to anticipate shots better and position yourself more effectively.
Stay sharp and keep practicing!
