Learn to Control the Pace with Strategic Soft Shots

Master the Art of the Soft Game

Today, we’re diving into one of the most underrated yet crucial skills in pickleball: the soft game. Mastering the soft game can significantly impact your ability to control the pace and direction of the match.

Key Focus: Touch and Control

  1. Practice Dinking: Set up a target zone on the court (such as a small cone or chalked area) and practice hitting soft dinks into this zone. Aim for consistency and precision.
  2. Soft Serves: While power is important, a soft serve can disrupt your opponent's rhythm. Practice a variety of soft serves to find the ones that work best for you.
  3. Volley Control: Stand at the non-volley zone line and volley softly with a partner. Focus on using wrist action and maintaining a loose grip to absorb power and control placement.

Consistency is key here. Dedicate a few minutes of your practice session to these drills, and you’ll notice a big improvement in your control on the court.

Keep practicing and stay patient.
